Expedition Akumal Coral Garden is GROWING

The team of Expedition Akumal could not be happier about the progress of their coral restoration project.  The first cuttings have grown amazingly well and now are being planted onto the reef.  You may have seen those  little suction-cup looking things on the reef for the last month – well now they’re holding the team’s cuttings in place to attach permanently to the reef.

Not only is the coral growing, the team’s recognition is growing as well. Expedition Akumal has recently been recognized on the SECORE blog. The work they are doing with the Coral Restoration progran in Akumal is bringing international recognition for giving coral reefs a future.   SECORE International is a leading conservation organization for the protection and restoration of coral reefs.  You can learn and see more at  www.secore.org.

Attached is a video that will take you under the sea, up close and personal, with what this amazing team is doing to help Akumal!  Also, the link below will take you to their end of the year newsletter.  You can subscribe to their newsletter to keep up to date.

Many, many thanks to the gardeners, donors and their support team!

  1. Hello,
we just visited Beautiful Akumal once again. I was so pleased to see all the positive changes to the coral growing! Thanks you to all for the hard work you are doing to restore it and protect Akumal Bay. It is showing each time we come for a visit. I was surprised to see how many people were on the beaches now though, beautiful Akumal is no longer a secret. We dropped off goodies for the kids at the library for all to enjoy.
