What’s New Around Akumal & Environs, May 2019

A spider monkey turned up at Casa Tranquilidad last week.  It made his way to the rooftop, walking along the top of the railing.  explored a few minutes, then on to Casa Milago and returned to Tranquilidad’s  palm that is shimmering with bougainvillea.  After 20 minutes it went to the vacant lot on the corner, across from Casa del Sol.  Pablo took the photos and thinks it is an older male.

Beginning in July, Cancún businesses that sell food won’t be permitted to use plastics.  This includes supermarkets and minis, like OXXO.  Because Quintana Roo is becoming concerned about the environment, other areas in the state are implementing the plastics ban as well.  OXXO management says it will sell “recycled cloth shopping bags at $14 pesos.”  Many restaurants have already stopped using plastic straws and to-go containers.
