Musings by Jake

Look, nobody ever said being a full-time shadow was easy, but somebody has to keep an eye on Dad and make sure he’s doing things right. I’ve spent months analyzing his daily habits, studying his movements — perfecting my technique.

Today was the ultimate test: The Akumal Balcony Lounge Protocol. The moment he kicked his leg up toward the ocean, I knew what I had to do. I flipped onto my back, extended my front leg into the air at a precise 74° angle, and matched his exact vibe. If he’s going to flex for the horizon, we’re going to do it as a team.

The hardest part was adjusting to his footwear upgrades in real time. He finally ditched the mid-calf crew sock and downgraded to a sleek white ankle sock. Naturally, I had to pivot my strategy on the spot to mirror his new aesthetic. Since I don’t wear socks, I had to stretch my white-furred paws to maximum length so the color scheme stayed completely synchronized. It takes serious dedication to align your fur patterns with your human’s sock choices, but that’s the level of commitment I bring to this relationship.

He actually thinks he is the one teaching me how to relax, which is hilarious considering I hold an honorary PhD in couch management and high-level lounging. Watch him closely—he thinks he’s just enjoying the ocean breeze, but in reality, he’s copying my exact stretch-and-yawn sequence. Every groan, every heavy sigh, every sudden urge to stare blankly into the blue water pretending to think deep thoughts… I taught him all of it.

At this point, we’re practically running a two-man synchronized lounging team. I’m giving our performance a solid 10/10 for symmetry, 12/10 for aerodynamic airflow, and 100/10 for pure majestic aura. Like father, like son, except, let’s be honest, my calf extension was definitely cleaner.
