Botanical jardin

Mayan Garden Club “Tip of the Month”-don’t miss joining us for this April meeting, it is a special one!!

The Mayan Garden Club will be touring the Botanical Jardin of Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marin for their monthly meeting on  April 16th. This April meeting event will be one you will not want to miss and is open to everyone-Meet in Chedraui, Puerto Aventuras Parking lot near bus stop cover at 8:30 or meet at Garden around 9:30am. I was told admission cost is $120 mx. Bring sun screen, bug repellant, and water.  As you are driving on 307 toward Cancun, take the road to right at Puerto Morelos and the garden is just there (about 15 minutes before the Airport).

This garden was established in 1982 and is one of the largest Botanical Gardens in Mexico. It’s the last patch of conserved forest between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, with collections of cacti, bromeliaceae, orchids, ferns, fruits, ornamentals, palms and medicinal plants representative of the Yucatan Peninsula. A trail about 4 km long leads through representative natural forest formations past a traditional Maya house and “chicle” camp with a Mayan Arqueological Site.
One of the main objectives of the Jardín is to conserve and propagate threatened species of plants from the region, provide education, and maintain the Mayan Culture and knowledge about how they used natural resources.
