Sunday June 19, 2016 a big bunch of trash washed up on the shore of Akumal Bay in front of LolHa. Unfortunately 2 jet skiers decided to take a scenic turnout on their morning ride. The use of Jet Skies in Akumal Bay is not allowed and will never be allowed in the Marine Refuge that Akumal has recently been declared. These two were seen and reported to Profepa and to the Port Authority. All boats in Akumal Bay have to be registered with the Port Captain through an application process: a limited number are allowed in the Bay and Jet Skis are not allowed. Unfortunately the Policía did not arrive before the offenders split — over our beloved turtles and reef. How DARE they??!!! [Can you tell how miffed our staff person is?] Fortunately, Hotel Akumal Caribe security staff was there to collect information for the reports. These vehicles had no registration marks and although the investigation will surely find them as they are reported to be from Puerto Adventuras, any information on these two is most helpful.
