“Keeping it Akumal” – Update

I don’t even know where to start.  What a great, successful night at the Lol Ha dining room.  Almost 100 people in attendance, ready to eat, drink, dance and bid on the 50 items provided for the silent auction.

Thanks to Laura Bush for her generosity in providing the main dining room at Lol Ha.  Her staff went beyond what we expected.  The bar was kept busy, and the staff helped with all the food that was made by Vecinos members. All of our needs were taken care of with a smile.

Nancy, Dave and Dan, Mónica and a host of volunteers really worked hard to make it a success.  It was our first attempt and there’s already talk of next year’s event.  Rockumal said they’d be happy to play again next year — the band got the place rocking from 6 to 8.

So, if you missed this year event, there will, hopefully, be another “Keeping it Akumal 2″ next year.

Personally, I had a fantastic time and won a bid for a framed print.  When someone asks me why I live in Akumal full time, I tell them it’s events like this that make life so much fun, help out the community and bring us all together.

Thanks to everyone who attended last night’s party!     — Shirley

While this event was called a fundraiser, it was so much more! The real pearl of the event was the magic of being together and celebrating life with friends after the disaster of covid. We thought the event might have 60 attendees; we ended up with 97 attending. The auction was successful, and we thank all of our auction contributors. Because of your enthusiastic response, the event raised one hundred twenty-five thousand pesos for community improvements.    — Dan
