How to Obtain Your REC

I had a banner day the other day.  Not only did I obtain my RFC, but the electronic signature as well!

I went to the SAT office in Tulum, which is located right next to where you get the placas for your car.  I found that the Tulum SAT office was not very busy.  We got there around 8:15 and they opened at 9.  I did not have an appointment; however, if you go to the SAT site you can make one.  I was the fifth person in the queue and was finished by 11:30. They would not accept a copy of my CFE bill, they wanted an original.   I used a copy of my Telmex bill, copying all the pages, included the last page of ads, and that worked.  Remember to bring a flash drive.

Now, my next step was to obtain my REC (Registro Estatal de Contribuyentes).   This is done on-line and here are the steps I took to obtain it.   According to the Mexican government, you need an REC to get new placas and renew your car registration.  It took me a while to get it done.  I was having issues uploading photos, but finally managed.

Here’s what you need:

♦ Your CURP

♦ Your proper address

♦ A valid form of Mexican identification, such as driver’s license or Resident card. You will need a photo of what you are using because it will be uploaded to the application.

♦ Your email address

♦ A username and password for the REC application

♦ A Mexican cell phone number so they can send you a text with a code to validate

Here’s the web address —it was translated into English:  https://satq.qroo.gob.mx/registroestatal/registro/

Good luck with the process!
