CEA Turtle Season 2016/17 report

The turtle program is very happy to announce a great season…. and lengthy!  There were some late nests that surprised many, one nest hatched on Playa Tortuga on 29 December 2016, and the REALLY big surprise was the 107 babies that journeyed out to sea at Half Moon Bay on 19 January 2017 — yes tortugaritas in JANUARY!  A great season indeed.  Now the team will be finishing all documentation and reports for the government and planning for the first momma of 2017!

Reports will be available soon on CEA website that will show comparison from previous years. Thanks to all who help keep watch over the turtles while they are on Akumal’s beaches – it takes the community to help support the CEA Tortuga Team’s work.  Your knowledge of what to do during season, your volunteering in many ways, and of course, your financial support is greatly appreciated!

… And that is a wrap for the 2016 Turtle Season. The last nest of the season hatched on January 19. ———-… Se acabo la temporada de anidacion 2016! El ultimo nido eclosiono el 19 enero.
