Akumal Arts Festival & Residency is a community-based, global initiative. The vision is to bring a fiesta of art to Akumal Pueblo through an international consortium of artists making art, engaging the community, enhancing and beautifying the town for locals and our many worldwide visitors.

Fun Facts from Akumal Arts Festival 2018

❖ 100 artists painted 100 murals!

❖ 45 properties were donated by Akumal owners to house visiting artists!

❖ Ongoing Akumal Art Walk organized by Joan Crowe as an Akumal Airbnb Experience and as a free Monday tour through April 2019.

❖ Did you know that prior to Akumal Arts Festival 2018 programming, the public school students had never had art in the classroom?

➢ During the Fall of 2018, 60 workshops, classes and lecture demonstrations were offered over several weeks including the full program of activities at the Akumal Community Center during the festival weekend.

➢ Hekab Be led the way with Kaori Sueki organizing the Summer Art Program then we took it to the kindergarten, primary, secondary, and high school classrooms. Over 500 kids painted 1000 flags which added in every way to the festivities.

➢ During a 6 week after school program the Kindness Club, over 100 kids age 6-12 years participated in creating God’s Eyes installed at the park during the festival.

❖ Akumal Pueblo businesses have reported increased business from visitors touring the art. As yet we have no way to measure economic impact other than qualitatively.
