Vecinos Update

Vecinos Launches New Community Website

Vecinos de Akumal Norte, the North Akumal Neighbors’ Association, has launched a new website for the Akumal Norte community. It has a new, modern look and feel, with secure online credit card processing built in. It’s easy to navigate, and is filled with new and up-to-date information about the community and Vecinos’ initiatives. All Vecinos members are pre-registered to log on to the Member Area with online member forums, a member directory, and other members-only content. Have a look!   https://vecinosakumalnorte.org

December Extraordinary Meeting Report

An extraordinary meeting of Vecinos was held on December 15, 2022 to amend a number of provisions of the Bylaws. A total of 48 members were in attendance, including 10 members represented by proxy. There was no quorum for the meeting called for 3pm so, in accordance with the second notice, the meeting was called to order at 3.30.  Note, a second call for an extraordinary meeting requires a supermajority of 75% for approval of changes to the Bylaws.

Three of the proposed amendments received the necessary 75%.  The remaining 5 proposed amendments did not reach that threshold.  For further details see https://vecinosakumalnorte.org

Annual Meeting  &  Extraordinary Meetings

Vecinos annual membership meeting will be held on 23 February 2023.  There will be an Extraordinary meeting on the same day.

An election will be held on February 23, 2023, at the Vecinos annual membership meeting. The Board will announce the appointment of a Director of Elections to coordinate the election process by January 10.  The nominating committee will be composed of the Director of Elections and 2 other Vecinos members who are not candidates for election or related to a candidate.  Anyone interested in serving on the nominating committee should email their expression of interest Dan at [email protected] before January 8.  The Board and the Director of Elections will make all reasonable efforts to comply with the Charter Committee’s unanimous proposals for the election process.

This is going to be an active time for Vecinos and Akumal Norte.  If you are not a member yet, consider joining now and becoming an active participant in the direction of your community.  It is easy to join — just go online to the new Vecinos website at  vecinosakumalnorte.org

Resignations

After much thought and consideration, Tandy Muir-Warden and Dan Freeman are announcing our decision to resign from our offices as of February 23, 2023.  We are announcing today to give those who are interested and qualified the time they need to organize their campaigns to run for these offices.

Tandy and I have served the community for over eight years and we have served with full commitment to the job. Now we really need time for ourselves and our families. We of course will be here for consulting if it is needed.

Our commitment to Akumal Norte and the friendships with our (Vecinos) neighbors remains always,

Dan and Tandy
