Street Names: Committee Report

AkumalNow sends a big thank you from the Committee on Street Names to all of those who made suggestions.  The committee will turn over its report to the leadership of Vecinos de Akumal Norte; and, in turn, Vecinos will submit this list to the government of Tulum who has the final say.

Camino YalKu:  our main road from the pluma to the lagoon.

Thematically mixed suggestions for the six side streets:

  • flower:  Tulipán
  • tree: Palmera
  • bird: Pelícanos
  • animal: Tejón
  • fish: Tiberón
  • ocean:  Caracol

The determination of having Calle preceding the submitted name is the preogative of Tulum as well as the use of the term, Privada, which means a street has no outlet.  At this point no side streets have been designated with a particular one of the above names.  The committee hopes that the term, Privada, will be omitted so not to make a street name overly long.
