A lot has happened in the past two weeks. Tulum’s governing administration has renewed the legal document recognizing Vecinos de Akumal Norte as the legal representatives of Akumal Norte. In addition, Vecinos has been commended for the completion and implementation of the infrastructure projects bringing our development closer to completion. Tulum’s President wants to be part of the celebration “The Lights of Akumal Norte”. This will be held at the completion of our first stage of 50 lights. The government has noted Vecinos as the model civic organization for others to follow in completing their developments in Quintana Roo. Without the support of you in this community, this recognition would not be possible. As always, thank you for your support.

On July 3rd 2017 Vecinos signed a contract with Valefab Int., S.A. de C.V. for an initial fifty solar street lights. A deposit check for one half of the contracted price in the amount of $181,400.00 pesos, sealed the deal and set the contract in motion.

These lights will create off-white light. Initially the lights are a soft dim, bright enough for you to see down the road. However they light to the fullest when a car or someone walking along comes close. Even at their fullest light they do not interfere with star-gazing or turtles laying eggs on the beach. The lights are mounted on plastic covered solid steel pipes and secured in off-road cement bases. In addition, there are special locks, securing them in place on the pole so they cannot be stolen. They come with a five-year guarantee against material defect and solar battery life. The first stage of light installation is scheduled to be completed by August 15th.

Our Street Lighting first stage is funded and we are half way into the funding of the second stage. I’m writing this both to bring you up to speed as to where we are now and to ask once again for your support to complete the light project. Lights are $410.00usd each, and you may donate by credit card, Mexican or American check, cash pesos or dollars, and direct deposit. Please let me know if you can help by emailing or phone 984-875-9096 land line or 984-801-6371 Mexican cell phone.  This project is of major importance to the completion of another government required infrastructure item – Street Lighting. Your participation is greatly appreciated.

I know many in the community have purchased lights. Please be patient with my email solicitations for donations; we are almost finished with the lights. Our next major project required by the government is a central sewage system and underground electric lines. However, when the light project is completed, we will work on some service projects like joining the recycle program for the entire community.

Thank for your support,

Dan

Roy Daniel Freeman, President
