La Piccolina – Pizza By the Slice

After great anticipation, La Piccolina has finally opened.  Edgar Ym, the owner is so pleased to finally be able to make his delicious pizzas.

Edgar has a long history working in restaurants.  He worked for three years in Costa Rica in an Italian venue.  He also worked in the USA for four years in an Italian restaurant and made pizzas in Italy for three years.  That’s a lot of experience!   So he was more than ready to open his place in Akumal.  Pre-pandemic, Edgar had a pizza place in the Grand Sirenis complex.

Now on to the La Piccolina.  Right now, it is all take-out pie by the slice at $50 pesos each.    These pizzas are thin crust with a delicious sauce and a good amount of cheese.  The basic menu will include a pepperoni and cheese pizza, along with a ham and pineapple and a vegetarian choice.  Specialty pizzas will be offered daily.  While we chatted, Edgar made three large sheet pan pizzas.

La Piccolina’s hours are  9–5, Tuesday through Sunday.  In the future Edgar plans to hire people for delivery, but as with any new business, he’s working things out slowly to make sure he makes the right decisions.  There’s not a phone number  to order ahead, but hopefully one will be available in the future.

I ordered a slice of the mushroom and cheese pizza and one of  the ham and pineapple.  Both were delicious and I cant wait to go back to try others.  Today a BBQ pizza was the specialty.

Let’s all welcome La Piccolina to the many restaurants that make Akumal so special.

Located across the street from OXXO and Chomak.
