The CEA Coastal Clean Up on September 20, 2014, was a great success. Over 75 people showed up to help — residents of Akumal Playa and Pueblo, Tao, Chan Chemuyil and staff members from LolHa, the Dive Shop, La Cueva del Pescador, and more. Teams were divided up and sent out to their assigned areas with bags and gloves. Half Moon Bay was cleaned up by their residents, while the beaches of Akumal Bay, Jade Beach (commonly referred to as Playa Tortuga) and Akumal Sur were cleaned by the teams of volunteers.

Over 30% of the trash was collected from the entrance road connecting highway to the beach. The numbers are amazing:

  • 127 pounds of plastic
  • 3 pounds of aluminum
  • 117 pounds of glass
  • 192 pounds of non-recyclables

We all need make everyone aware that littering needs to STOP in Mexico! We do know that some of the beach litter does wash up, but there is a large amount left by people enjoying a day at the beach. Our beautiful Akumal won’t be beautiful long unless the littering STOPS!!!

How about some signage — NO TIRAR BASURA!!!  And fines for offenders?

Please help keep Akumal litter FREE!!!no litter
