Akumal Foodie on the Road: Cócono in Cancún

My friend and I were headed to the lampshade store in Cancún, which is close to Costco.  She suggested we have lunch at Cócono.
I was really surprised with the elegant dining room and bar.  Tastefully decorated in subtle hues, gives you a feeling of calm.
Our waiter came by, asked about drinks and then brought us a tray of tidbits.  There were different types of dipping sauces, with chips and a small bowl of fried corn kernels.  They were crunchy and different from anything I’d ever had.  The corn tasted like a nut.
We both opted for the Yam Soup, for our first course.  Delicious.  As you can see by the photo, it looks as good as it tasted.  It was a light cream soup with hazelnuts, shredded yam and cranberries.
For my entrée, I had a salad with beef, that was delicious and tender.  My lunch mate also had a salad.  Neither salad was over dressed .  For dessert, we shared a rich and creamy rice pudding.  The menu is varied with something for everyone.  The bar is fully stocked and there is an ample dessert cart.  Service was attentive and right on the mark.  The manager came by to ask how we enjoyed ourselves and we told him how satisfied we were.
Cócono is located on Avenida Yaxchilan, across the road from Costco.  They have valet parking, which is a huge plus.  You can make a reservation by calling 998-884-1854.
Their hours are: Mon.-Wed. 1 PM to 11 PM, Thurs-Fri. 1 PM to midnight, Sat. 9 AM to midnight and Sun. 9 AM to 8 PM
As much as we hope Costco will some day come to Playa del Carmen or Tulum, making the trip to Cancún can be a pleasant adventure if you give Cócono a try.  We will go back the next time we’re in Cancún.
