Akumal Foodie at Imelda’s Ecocina

IS AKUMAL ABOUT TO LOSE ITS ONLY 5-STAR RESTAURANT?

No, the folks from Michelin haven’t been here yet, but Imelda’s Ecocina has a well-deserved 5-star rating on Yelp. If we don’t support it, it will close soon. This little gem of a restaurant has been in Akumal for 23 years. They offer great Mexican food at bargain prices. Where else can you get a full lunch for $95-$130 pesos? The service and food are outstanding! A favorite is the chicken enchiladas, but I also love the fish filet. Others rave about the chicken burritos and the fish tacos. No one I have ever taken there had anything but praise for the menu. A friend had the banana milkshake and it was special too.   (Was that chai in it?)

So stop in soon. It is next to the basketball court in the Centro area of Akumal Playa, near El Pueblito grocery. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for breakfast and lunch. They don’t take credit cards, but the food is so inexpensive you won’t need plastic. They also do carryout.
