A Blast from the Past

Some of us weren’t around in November 1993 – or thereabouts – when the first Akumal Sun Times came out.  It averaged 15 pages or so and was full of local news, literary offerings, ads, recipes, and general silliness – things of interest to residents, owners, and visitors.  After a few years, Carol Larson’s publication morphed into The Akumal Observer, which was put together by Patsy Teer.

Why this comes up now is that when Annette was moving from her house to an apartment, she came across a stash of issues of both journals.  We thought it would be fun to reprint items from time to time.  Here’s the first, from May/June 1995 —

  1. Love the idea of printing articles from the old Akumal newspapers! Some of the articles were hysterical! Remember the cartoon that Jamie did with a Volkswagen submerged in a big hole of water in the Tulum road? I loved the gossip columns too!
