May 4, 2024 Dear Vecinos Members and Residents of Akumal Norte, I trust this letter finds you all in good health and spirits. As we enter the Sargasso season once again, it is evident that this issue affects us all, particularly those of us who call HMB home. Vecinos acknowledges the significant impact of Sargasso on our beloved HMB beach and recognizes that beach cleanup efforts are crucial in addressing this challenge. We want to extend our sincerest appreciation to Ivan Penie for his outstanding initiative and dedication in organizing and overseeing beach cleanup activities in collaboration with the Mexican government through ZOFEMAT. Over the past six weeks, teams of workers from ZOFEMAT, under Ivan’s supervision, have diligently worked to tackle this issue head-on, already yielding positive results for our beach. Furthermore, we commend all beachfront owners who have generously contributed by donating food and water to support these cleanup efforts. Your contributions are instrumental in ensuring the success of this initiative. However, there is still much more to be done. While Ivan’s efforts with ZOFEMAT are commendable, it is imperative that each property owner takes responsibility for cleaning their own beach. Every single property owner in HMB plays a crucial role in preserving the environmental integrity of our coastline. In conclusion, Vecinos Association urges every property owner in HMB to take proactive steps to clean their own beach. Together, we can make a significant difference in combating the challenges posed by Sargasso and preserving the beauty of our beloved HMB beach. For more information about Sargasso in our community please review the Mexican Government and State of Quintana Roo Sargasso strategies guidelines at this link. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and we look forward to your continued support and cooperation. Warm regards, |
