Things just got interesting for shoppers in the Riviera Maya. Costco’s CFO, Mauricio Talayero, confirmed earlier that the warehouse-club giant was evaluating new store locations in the Yucatán Peninsula, including Playa del Carmen.
So what does Costco look for? Prior site-selections suggest a few key elements:

A 5-mile trade-area with a full-time population of at least 200,000

A large, free-standing site (±150,000 ft²) with ample parking

Strong logistics and supply-chain infrastructure
Sure sounds like Playa!
On 24 October Nicole Ibáñez reported in Por Esto that the CFO of Costco in Mexico confirmed that Playa del Carmen would indeed be the location of a brand, new Costco!
La nueva sucursal se ubicará en el municipio de Playa del Carmen, siendo esto confirmado por el director financiero de la empresa en México…Aunque por el momento no se ha revelado la ubicación exacto como también la fecha de apertura.
