I had the fortunate opportunity to meet Carol Neeley and her husband Steve in the pool at their complex. Like many of us, Steve and Carol started coming to Akumal 25 years ago. Five years ago, they purchased a condo which Steve now lives in full time.
Before Carol passed from her battle with a rare sarcoma, she told her family that she had a wish for the children of Akumal. She wanted the children to continue to have access to education and resources at Biblioteca Hekab Be. Steve and his family have made this possible by creating Nido de Carolina (Carol’s Nest), or Carol Derrough Neeley Fund. This fund has been designated in Carol’s memory and Steve is involved in the projects.
During this week, Steve is matching contributions to Carol’s Nest up to a total of $1000.00 usd. So far, they have almost reached the goal of $3000.00. This is Morgan Troy Neeley’s Fund Raiser for her mom.

We’ll let you know what is going on with Steve’s projects. He told me he was going to make a porch in front of one of the buildings at the library. The library is looking pretty good and we’re happy that Steve and his family are part of making it happen.
