Cancun’s Symphony Orchestra

Originally founded in late 2017  the Camerata de Cancún has taken a step forward on its path towards excellence as the Orquesta Sinfónica de Cancún.  Currently comprised of some 55 musicians from many different countries, the program announced for the 2018 season is varied and offers something for everyone of whatever musical taste.

Ten concerts are planned for this season:  23 February, From Russia with Love;  23 March, The Grand Tenors;  20 April, Morning Stars;  25 May, Cinema Classics;  13 July, Baroque and a Little More;  17 August, New World Symphony;  14 September, Proudly Mexican;   12 October, Carmina Burana;  9 November, Symphonic Rock;  7 December, Christmas Music. The orchestra has also scheduled a special concert during the Festival of Life and Death in Xcaret Park.

Concerts are held in the Teatro de Cancún, located at km 4 in the Hotel Zone. Parking can be difficult, so plan to arrive early.  There’s a pleasant little restaurant, Sirenas, located on the Embarcadero right next to the theater where you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer, maybe a ceviche or pizza before the concert begins, which is usually at 8:30 pm.  Arriving early boasts an extra bonus as the pirate ships will be getting ready to set sail on their nightly adventure.
