To the Akumal Norte Community:
During the next few weeks Vecinos is initiating a program to remove, repair, install new topes. These topes are to meet government standards of construction. This action was brought on because some topes have caused injuries to motorcycle riders and damage to cars. As president of Vecinos I have received countless emails and calls asking what is going to be done about topes. In addition many tour companies and taxis visiting the YalKu Lagoon use the newly completed street as a race way. We also must consider guests whose safety is an issue as they walk along the roadway. So high season or not, we must complete this project.
Please have patience with our work crews. We would have liked to have waited until high season was over, but we have been pushed to solve the tope situation. So some will be removed, some reconfigured, and some new ones installed on the long stretches of road.
We still need funding for this project. We need to sell two more topes at $350.00 usd. If you buy one you can even have your name on the tope sign. We are looking for signs shaped like turtles for the topes. If you know of a local sign shop, please let Dan know at the Vecinos address listed.
Thank You for Your Help!
Dan
