Tourists, owners, and employees all have a part to play in a successful sea turtle nesting season. It’s easy – all we have to do is . . .
♦ Use colored bulbs to light buildings
♦ Pull beach-facing drapes
♦ Move beach chairs up close to the building
♦ Prevent access to swimming pools
♦ Keep noise to a minimum
♦ Stand well away from a nesting turtle
♦ Take photos/videos without flash
Remember, it’s against the law to touch or disturb the endangered turtles.
Marine turtles are classified as endangered species in Mexico. Article 420 BIS of the Federal Criminal Code establishes fines from one to nine years in prison for anyone who damages, deprives a marine turtle of life, or harvests or stores any sea turtle product and/or any by-product.
