Turtle nesting stats are in for July. It was a tough month with all the challenges of Mother Nature and the Sargazo, but the large number of turtles coming in this year shows they still LOVE us!! The hatchlings have started appearing and although challenged in some cases to make it to water, with the supervision of the trained staff and volunteers of CEA 2015 Turtle Program they are completing their journey to the sea. A reminder to continue to follow all nesting regulations as the season continues with many turtles up on the beaches at night and the added population of hatchlings. Last years total nest was 647 – we are almost at that number now with 2 months and more left in the season-CONGRATS Akumal!! Let’s keep them coming back!!
One of CEA volunteers Brett Mello gives you a little view of a baby Loggerhead freshly hatched starting his journey-
