On January 17, 2017 CEA presented the kick off to the 1-year pilot project of Surveillance and Monitoring of the Akumal Fish Refuge with support of The Nature Conservancy.
Although the ZRPA(Zona de Refugio Resquero) has been designated to help protect 21 species of fish and crustraceans for commercial interest in Akumal, the task of enforcing this has continued to be a complicated one. This step in a positive direction is great news for many beachfront owners who have expressed concern many times.
If you witness illegal activity, report to 911. It is recommended if at all possible to get photographs of the offenders and the area, then contact CEA so it can be reported as a “denuncia” on the CONEPSECA and PROFEPA websites.
