Lolha Receives State Environmental Award

Hotel Akumal Caribe and Restaurant Lolha Awarded State Environmental Certification

Hotel Akumal Caribe and Restaurant and Snack Bar Lolha have successfully passed the environmental audit that accredits them to receive the Environmental Certification of the State of Quintana Roo : “El Certificado Verde “.

In June of 2020, the Hotel/Lolha  were asked by the Procuraduria de Proteccion al Ambiente  (PPA), which is the State Environmental Protection Agency,  to take part in this voluntary audit and  certification process which would ensure our property complies with State Environmental Laws.

It’s a long and arduous process, but they took on the challenge despite facing the Covid pandemic.  It was the right thing to do for many reasons. They had already started some of the measures necessary to be an environmentally responsible property, so this was the next logical step.  Hotel Akumal Caribe wanted to set an example for others by being the first hotel of the Municipality of Tulum to get certified.

This was not an easy challenge! They were already taxed with extra health and safety measures imposed due to the pandemic, and also struggled with the lack of tourism.  But after one year and 5 months, they were notified that they had passed the audit!

It is a great honor that is the result of the hard work of staff with the direction and supervision from external environmental advisor Elizabeth Bautista.  The logo and certificates can now be proudly displayed!   But it’s an ongoing process with yearly renewal necessary in order to continue to hold the certification.

For now,  Hotel Akumal Caribe and Restaurant and Snack Bar Lolha want to thank all the staff for their hard work. We hope they have learned much from the process that they can apply in their own homes to teach their children to be environmentally aware from a young age   and know the benefits that it brings us every day.
