We welcomed almost 20 people to Best of the Best, May 2018–a few regular snowbirds have flown the coop; however, among those joining in were two returning owners whom Akumal has not seen in recent years—Jeff Jones and Maria Acosta. It is such a pleasure to greet our old and new friends. This monthly event (first Friday of every month–5:00 pm) meets regularly at La Buena Vida Restaurant where the friendly wait staff takes good care of us. Although the emphasis is to choose winners in three categories (Best Shirt, Best Sandals, and Best Clever Tee), a big plus is just being together to share our love of Akumal (along with a little gossip and learning “how’s” and “where’s” to make our life in Paradise more enjoyable).
Judges for May were Rocio Cue and Mary Henderson. Receiving a free drink from the respective participating restaurants ( Lunita, Turtle Bay, and Buena Vida) were the following: Best Shirt–Ken Sloan; Best Clever Tee–Joel Fritz; and Best Sandals–Isabel Schober. Our free-drink sponsors deserve a lot of credit for recognizing our winners. Also, La Buena Vida and Turtle Bay gererously give prizes in the random drawing; these prizes vary each month (free tee, LBV mug, Cueva Vodka, and various wines with a dinner order). Kudos to these fine restaurants!
