As of Thursday Dec 11, 2014 at 8.30am, Akumal will have its own Red Cross Ambulance stationed 24 hours a day!!!! The ambulance will service Akumal and the surrounding areas and will assist locals and tourists alike.
This means that emergencies can now be responded to in mere minutes instead of 40 or more. As with any city in the world, Akumal has had its share of deaths; some of these could have been prevented if medical services had been available quickly. Now they are!
CEA has generously donated dormitory space for the paramedics to sleep at night. The ambulance will be parked on the sandy access road to the beach on Akumal’s main bay.
The emergency number to call for the Red Cross ambulance is 984 802 5521
Big thanks go out to all who supported this effort (financially or other), including a special thanks to Marieke Brown for spearheading this project.
Remember, the Red Cross is a charity organization that does NOT receive any government funding. If you think this ambulance is a great idea, then you might consider making a donation to the Red Cross to help ensure it becomes a permanent fixture in our wonderful town.
The button below will take you to the Red Cross branch that serves Akumal and the donation will be flagged for use on the Akumal Ambulance.
