Lunita Restaurant and its Chef Christian Reyes have been accepted as participants in the prestigious WINE and FOOD FESTIVAL 2015 created by David Amar and sponsored primarily by American Express. ¡¡Wow!! Akumal, long the scene for excitement, innovation, and a “wow” factor has another coup to celebrate. With a dash of pizzazz and panache, Akumal can claim new kudos.
The WINE and FOOD FESTIVAL is scheduled in March each year and features four days in various locations in and around Cancun. Presentations include Mexican and International Chefs hosting various seminars, Wine and Spirits Tastings, Gourmet Tasting Village, Interactive Cooking Challenges, and dinners by Star Chefs. In addition, the WINE and FOOD FESTIVAL sponsors other events throughout the year.
One of these events honors 50 Star Chefs from eight regions of Mexico who have been singled out for their abilities to transcend innovation and tradition that delight wine and food lovers. In our area this event, the “Cancun-Riviera Maya Star Restaurant Week,” features ten days of gourmet meals paired with exciting wines. Of the thousands of restaurants in this area, only fifteen (15) chefs were invited to offer their exquisite signature dishes. Chef Christian Reyes of Lunita Restaurant is one of the fifteen.
“Being one of fifteen,” says Chef Reyes, “is an oft-dreamed of goal that became a reality! I am so fortunate to be selected along with my peers.” Winners for 2015 were announced last month, and . . . Chef Reyes was also invited to participate in the “Cancun-Riviera Maya Star Restaurant Week” in June, 2014. He stated, “My desire is to please people who love good food and wine, and I want to make their dining experience serendipitous with all of their heightened senses of tastes and textures.”
Chef Reyes’s imagination and technical skills were influenced by his studies at Ambrosia Culinary Center, and by his professional work in the cities of Monterrey, Puebla, Malaga, and Sevilla. He has been in command of Lunita Restaurant for the past five years along with owner Annette Bartsch, a lover of Mexican cuisine and fine dining. Together with their excellent team, they have become an icon of Akumal and are one of the most important restaurants in the Riviera Maya area. Today they offer contemporary Mexican dishes with authentic local ingredients following tradition and creating memories, not to mention using techniques that make the difference–both today and for the past 21 years.
In addition to the “Akumal-Riviera Maya Star Restaurant Week,” Lunita Restaurant will offer a second dining event. Chef Nico Mejia of Cortez Restaurant in Guadalajara will join Chef Reyes for the night of Tuesday, June 24, 2014, to present a six course meal with accompanying fine wines. This date is in celebration of the 21st anniversary of Lunita Restaurant. Expect the spectacular!
