Turtle nesting stats for June show that the nesting season is in full swing. Even with the storm that brought torrential rain and surge in some coastal areas, only a few nests were lost. The turtle team is very pleased with the number of nests on the beaches. They are working extremely hard every night to ensure protection for the mommas and successful nesting. They would like to thank the property owners for doing their part in keeping the beaches quiet, free of activity, and ensuring proper lighting –
it is a difficult task, and all efforts are very appreciated. The hatchings will start soon, so be sure to keep pets off the beaches. With the large amount of Sargassum still on some beaches, the hatchlings may encounter difficulties on their journey to the sea.
