The 2016 CEA Tortuga Team has been busy with the arrival of the mommas! A good number of Loggerheads are coming onto every beach. It looks to be another great season!! All efforts from beachfront properties doing their part in keeping obstructions off the beach and lights out are so very appreciated! Mid June should bring the arrival of the Blanca/Greens – we anxiously await their arrival!
Loggerhead turtles are easily distinguished from others by their huge heads and sharp, pointed beaks. They eat crustraceans, jelly fish, and hang out mostly in the reefs. You will see their nests on rocky beaches. They dig their nest very shallow and finish their task on the beach quickly. These are the most endangered of the species, and the tortuga team is doing extra work to ensure a very successful hatchling season!
