Sky Excitement – June 2025

1 June:  Venus is at its farthest distance from the Sun in the sky and shines brightly before sunrise.

11 June:  June’s Strawberry Moon is at its most illuminated at 02:43 in Akumal.  Native American Algonquin tribes and other groups used the name to mark the time of strawberry harvesting. It isn’t related to the moon’s color, though it may appear slightly reddish near the horizon due to atmospheric conditions.

21 June:  Summer Solstice

22 June:  A thin Waning Crescent Moon with a very bright Venus. Find the “morning star” just before sunrise on the eastern horizon.

29 June:  The Waxing Crescent Moon and Mars are very close in the evening sky.
