SAM in Akumal Pueblo

On Saturday, March 12, 2022, I had the good fortune to help my friend Amy.  She set up a table under the “dome” in the Akumal pueblo to let children paint rocks as part of the activities associated with the festival.  Amy supplied the materials for the children to paint their chosen rocks and encouraged them to leave the rocks around the pueblo.

Children from the pueblo were in costumes showcasing the various sea life that is part of the Mesoamerican Reef System.  Once the children were gathered together, they paraded through the Pueblo, then were judged for the great work they did in creating their costumes.  Amy was one of the judges, while I took care of our table with avid painters.

Imaginations ran wild with rock painting and with the terrific costumes the children wore.

A variety of other business’ provided face/hand painting, along with muffins and apples — and even a table loaded with soccer balls!

The event was well attended by children and their families.  This is the second year of the SAM Festival, which is put on by CEA.
