North Akumal Security Project

The North Akumal Security Project is a welcomed new venture that began in September of 2015.  It owes its start to Terry Richardsdon, North Akumal Security Chairman, with input from ADMAK, the property managers association. This project was created with the idea of improving security for owners, their families, their workers, and their guests.

Information for this article was gleaned from the e-mail communication sent by Terry Richardson on his January 31, 2016 report to the community.  The Security Project is deemed to be in the “learning curve stage;” however, noticeable improvements are seen almost daily.  At this point, the gist of the project is —

  • have four security guards on duty
  • hours are 4:00 pm to 4:00 am, 7 days per week
  • always have a supervising guard at the pluma
  • three guards are mobile and silent–two patrol on bicycles, one on foot on the beaches of North Akumal
  • all guards are connected by radio
  • additional palapa made for guards in Section H (near La Sirena)
  • guards are in communication with the municipal police
  • guards are employees of Target Security

As typical of things in Akumal, none of this increased security comes cheaply, and owners are asked to do their fair share.  The suggested contributions are $500 USD per house and $100 USD per condominium or vacant lot.  The overall monthly budget for 2016 is $52,903.00 and yearly it’s $634,836.00–prices shown in pesos.

Chairman Terry Richardson has a list of contributions received as well as those pledged.  Please contact him at [email protected] to receive instructions on how make your contribution.
