During the first two weeks of November, GDR will be offering its second free dental clinic in the Community Center in Akumal Pueblo. October 30 – November 15, 2021.
The first clinic in Akumal was held during May and June of this year. Altogether, the two teams of GDR volunteers provided $210,539 in dental care (US equivalent) to children and adults in the Pueblo. Pueblo residents received 451 restorations, 104 extractions and 469 fluoride varnish treatments. Each patient also received a new toothbrush and oral hygiene instruction.
Thanks go to many ex-pats and local residents for the first clinic: Tina graciously provided the Community Center to house equipment and supplies, host the clinic and organize and schedule patients; Din and Terry Richardson helped GDR make initial contacts, find local sources for compressors and equipment, house supplies, and made countless trips to Home Depot and compressor stores in Playa; Larry and Jody Allen and Gary and Myrna Sparks helped to underwrite costs for clinics supplies; Turtle Bay and Jen Smith catered many, many meals to keep volunteers fed and happy and helped trouble shoot bringing patients to the clinic.
