Akumal’s Best of the Best was well-attended on a breezy 4 November 2016 at the new location, La Buena Vida Restaurant, where 29 people showed up to enjoy the camaraderie with each other after a 3 month “vacation” of this event. For the past 10 years this Akumal tradition was known as “Best Shirt,” and it honored the memory of Robin Goble who loved that another person had “out-shirted” him on a particular evening. “Out-shirted” was a favorite designation Robin used to tell someone that their shirt surpassed his.
After much input from locals, it was decided to give a new, more inclusive emphasis to this fun event; hence, the new name, “Akumal’s Best of the Best,” and new categories of participation were determined. Not only will a ‘Best Shirt” continue to be recognized, but also “Best Sandals” and “Best Clever T-Shirt” has joined this light-hearted monthly event. Winners in each of the three categories were selected by a committee (this month’s committee was Mary Henderson, Carly Flores, and Isabel Schober), and winners received a free drink from different area businesses. Congrats to –
- Best Shirt: John Winkel
- Best Sandals: Jackie Power
- Best Clever T-Shirt: David Zucker
