Driver’s Licenses in Tulum

On Thursday, November 18th a couple of us renewed our licenses in Tulum.  We arrived at the Station, located about one block past Chedraui, at 10:30 and there was only a handful of people doing business.  What luck!  An officer came right over, asked what we needed and checked our papers.  The whole operation took about 40 minutes — taking a photo, creating the written license document, paying the fee, picking up our new license, and out the door!

These are the current requirements to get a license in Tulum:

Bring your original documents.  The passport copy, the residence permit copy, and the copies of medical and eye exams must be on individual sheets of paper.  For heaven’s sake, do not make the mistake of putting them all on one page!  Just in case, bring along a copy of your CURP from the government web site.  A medical certificate can be obtained from the doctor at any Farmacia Similares — mention it’s for a driver’s license (used to cost $35 mx) and the eye exam can be your last one.  We were renewing, so didn’t need a new med. cert. or eye exam.

Request the licencia de chofer “C” so you can drive cars and pickups.  The license is good for 2-years.

And don’t leave home without your CFE bill!  Ever!
