George Pritchard, chairman of Vecinos maintenance committee discussed plans for the coming year. The road in front of Casa Mayanah desperately needs repairs, he said. During rainstorms, this section floods to the point that people walking along the road – tourists and residents alike – can barely wriggle past the area. In addition, the tope is falling apart to the point that rebar is showing.
The project will include removing the tope and repaving the road with pavers. The road will be graded to drain the water toward the sides. A drain gutter will be installed on the mangrove side to direct the water into a drain. Existing drains will be cleaned and one new inlet installed. The total cost of this project is $290,000 pesos.
Akumal vecinos always step up when needed. If you can donate to the project, please contact George at La Bahía #4 or the La Bahía office. George’s email is akumalgeo@aol.com. You can also donate through the Vecinos website – specify that your contribution is to be used exclusively for the special road project.
