Have you ever wanted to get involved in reef conservation? — Well, become a Science Diver!!
Find out more at reef4akumal.org You will learn about reef ecology, species identification, reef restoration, data collection, and scientific diving techniques.
This is a wonderful opportunity to help Akumal’s first underwater Coral Garden. Since 2014, Expedition Akumal has been rescuing dying coral fragments. And these efforts have shown incredible results: 95% of the fragments have survived and are showing signs of new growth.
Even if you aren’t able to travel here to help with the underwater tasks, there is much you can do from afar. Expedition Akumal’s website has information on the project and on volunteering.
