A Bakery Worth the Trip

When I started to write this article, I was going to tell you about the delicious cakes, pies and pastries that Tere Cazola has to offer.  After spending a terrible two hours at the SAT office in Playa with a friend, she suggested we stop at Tere Cazola.  She wanted to buy their ground coffee.  We decided to each have a pastry.  She had a fruit topped cheesecake, and I had carrot cake.  Both were delicious!  I decided to order two Key Lime pies for the following Monday, for a birthday.  Those pies were also amazing.

As I Googled the bakery, to basically get their hours and items for sale, I discovered a very interesting woman behind the enterprise:

María Teresa Cazola was a teacher who loved baking.  In 1985, with encouragement from friends and a need to make money to supplement her teacher’s salary, she sold her first ten pies, with a startup of $250 pesos.  In 1991, she opened her first store, near her home.  In 2004, she opened the first factory.  In 2011, Tere Cazola  went online to take orders for delivery.   She admits it was not always smooth sailing, and the pandemic hurt the business, but she survived.  There are now 100 bakery locations and María Teresa Cazola employs over 1000 people.  This is a true success story, built out of love of baking and the need to help her family.

If you visit their website, terecazola.com you will find a complete list of items for sale.  From cakes, to pies, brownies, cookies, along with paper plates, utensils, and candles, it’s really a complete bakery and party center.

The bakery in the Chedraui Multiplaza in Puerto Aventuras is open from 8:00am – 9:30pm, Sundays 8:30-9:00.

Enjoy your visit to Tere Cazola — we certainly had a yummy time!
