Vecinos Update – November 2024

November 26, 2024

Dear Vecinos Members and Community,

Warm greetings from your President!

First, I want to extend heartfelt congratulations to the fundraising committee of the Vecinos Association, especially Mónica Estrada, for organizing a truly outstanding art fundraising event. Your efforts have surpassed all expectations, and we are immensely grateful!

A special thank you to the contributors and talented artists Mónica Estrada, Ingrid Datica y Malú Güijosa who donated 100% of their art sales to our Association. A very special acknowledgment to Laura Bush for her significant support to our community and association.

Under my presidency, and with the unwavering dedication of our active Board members, we have achieved remarkable milestones together:

  • Legalization of the security gate and CAPA meter installation for the Pluma– a vital step for our community’s safety and organization.
  • Repairing the road in front of Playa Caribe and installation of new Solar Street lights– addressing a major security concern for residents and visitors.
  • Phase 2 of the Akumal Norte Semi-Privatization Project is in full swing, featuring:
    • The initiation of the recycling program under Ingrid’s leadership with support from CEA.
    • Akumal Norte boundary surveys, soon to be presented to the municipality, to help resolve long-standing legal issues for property owners and businesses.
    • A partnership with La Salle University to develop the initial design for a sidewalk and bicycle trail from the security gate to La Buena Vida, significantly enhancing the urban image of Akumal Norte and attracting more guests to our community.
  • I want to extend my gratitude to our government committee members Ingrid Datica, Mónica Estrada and Scott Brown for their dedication to these transformative projects, particularly the sidewalk and bicycle trail initiative and recycling program which is a critical development for our community.

On December 1, 2024, AR Security Company and Vecinos will part ways. We will have again Target as our security company in charge of the security at The Pluma. Target will start a provisional 3 months period while we look at all options for this position. Thank you Sergio Bolio for your help.

None of this progress would have been possible without the support and engagement of property owners, business owners, and administrators. To those who are already Vecinos members, thank you for your contributions! For those who aren’t yet members, I urge you to join us.

Your participation will ensure Akumal Norte continues to thrive as a safer, more vibrant community for all.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Ricardo Mangione
President, Vecinos Association of Akumal Norte
