World’s Most Environmentally Friendly Cruises

As the popularity of cruises continues to grow, so does the effort to minimize their environmental impact. Earlier this week, Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess was heralded for its innovative use of liquified natural gas as it docked in Cozumel for the first time. The Sun Princess is also the largest ship of its class ever built in Italy, at a whopping 178 thousand tons and a capacity of 4,300 passengers.

Environmental groups advise seeking smaller cruise vessels committed to sustainability. Natural liquified gas offers several environmental benefits over diesel when used on cruise ships, including considerably lower carbon dioxide emissions, other greenhouse gases and particulate matter.

Here are some of the most innovative and environmentally conscious cruise ships and initiatives:

Norway’s Hurtigruten: A Pioneer in Hybrid Power

MSC Euribia: A Green Giant

MSC Euribia, a massive cruise ship, is surprisingly eco-friendly. Powered by LNG and equipped with advanced noise-management systems, this ship proves that size and sustainability can indeed coexist.
