Akumal Arts Festival has grown into a phenomenon. Unprecedented change has evolved in the social development of Akumal, a small Mexican Caribbean, coastal community. It is proving to be a gathering ground for an international group of artists eagerly anticipating the community and canvas of Akumal. January 28, 29 and 30, 2022, in Akumal Pueblo.
Over 100 new and returning street artists, muralists, musicians, and performing artists originating from the Americas, Europe, Uganda, will collaborate with local artists, students, and civic groups to develop a series of creative projects celebrating the rich culture, vibrant community, and natural beauty of Akumal. Artists will arrive as early as January 20th to begin painting and lecture demonstrations in the schools. New artistic works will be added to the overpass bridge, public and private houses in Akumal Pueblo.
‘Beautify Akumal’ is the call, with broad themes relating to culture of the Maya and Mexico, conservation, the effects of climate change on Akumal.
Opening ceremonies begin in the evening of Friday, Jan. 28 on the overpass bridge. Weekend activities will include workshops, guided art walks, exhibit booths with art and food for sale, and live music and performances. Public events will be held in the Akumal Pueblo, the Paseo de Akumal, the park, bandstand, and community center. There is something for everyone at the Akumal Arts Festival & Residency
All events and activities are free and open to the public. There is plenty of free parking throughout the Pueblo.

ART FEST FACTS

❖ More than 100 artists will be arriving in Akumal beginning January 25, 2022 to paint murals, offer workshops and participate in the 4th Annual Akumal Arts Festival.
❖ Opening Ceremonies begin Friday 28, December 4:00pm on the Akumal Overpass Bridge.
❖ Live performance and entertainment, followed by DJ Friday, Saturday, Sunday January 28-30, 2022 5:00pm-1:am
❖ The Akumal Children’s Program Beautify Akumal 2022 will be an installation of hundreds of mobiles created from repurposed and recycled materials by the school children of Akumal Pueblo.
❖ Throughout the weekend Festival artists will offer a variety of workshops for all ages and levels of experience!
❖ Akumal Arts Festival Artwalk – 2 guided tours daily Friday, Saturday and Sunday

❖ Since 2018 Akumal Arts Festival has sponsored over 380 murals painted on the overpass bridge and throughout the Pueblo; offered hundreds of art classes, and provided 2 full scholarships for 2 youth of Akumal to attend University.
