More at the Arch.

A delegation from Akumal Pueblo cornered  Tulum municipal president David Balam this week while he was meeting with several state senators.  Participants say that the government has ordered the reopening of the traditional entrance to Akumal Bay.

Letters from the Human Rights Defense Council were sent to Q.Roo officials – the State Attorney General, the Secretary of State,  the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, Senator Pedraza Chávez, as well as David Balam.  Citing sections of the Mexican Constitution, the Council deemed that the closing of the traditional entrance was a violation of rights.

This came from Rene Medrano:  The village of Akumal is grateful for the support received in the Senate on this important fight for all Mexicans, and especially to Sen. Luz Maria Beristain and Sen. Isidro Pedraza, especially thank you for your friendship.

On 31 August during the day it was business as usual on Akumal Bay.  By 5:00 pm state police were posted in front of the traditional entrance to the bay and people were in the street waiting to see what would happen.

You can read more about it in the newspapers Por Esto  and  Novedades.
